Tamale History

The tamale is a food with history. Its roots are found in the Náhuatl world, where they were made in every home. Being the corn the foundation of the food in that time, it was taken as the main ingredient of them, and were carefully made and steam cooked. With the arrival of the europeans, the tamal's preparation was enriched and for the first time they included chicken, pork, beef, vegetables and herbs that were succesfully cultivated in America. Other important ingredients were chile, chocolate and mole, which created a unique, almost ritual experience.
